Over the past couple of decades weight reducing diets have become very fashionable and commercial in the western culture. There are many diets on the market claiming quick weight loss- the choice of diet and the claims made are astonishing. Many of these diets are boring, expensive, complicated and tedious after a short period of time. It is therefore no surprise that 99% of new dieters either give up or fail in achieving their goal weight. It is simply the fact that you are not able to reach a lower weight by severely reducing food intake, nor can you maintain that weight level. The innate physiology of the body does not allow this to happen.

Your weight can be affected by various different factors i.e. poor digestion, hormone imbalances, eating habits, food combination, even your blood type. The EIS Scan will help determine those possibilities but .for the moment we are simply going to look at how dieting can affect your body and its metabolism.
Weight loss and gain is a simple equation. The weight you carry is determined by the balance you achieve between the amount of calories you expend and the amount of calories you take in. So, it’s plain to see that to lose weight we must burn more calories than we eat. However, if you suddenly restrict your calorie intake by a very large proportion your body is going to react in a straight forward physiological response. (This is an automated response that we can not control) Your body is a master piece of engineering it has the most incredible defense and survival systems in place to counter attack any situation that may be self harming. A sudden lack of calories will kick it into ‘famine’ alert and it will do all it can to avoid starvation. At the beginning of the diet it will yield muscle mass, stored sugar and water, glycogen is taken from reserves of fat, however, the same process that breaks down the fat also breaks down glycogen stored in the muscles of the body and the liver. As a result many pounds are lost initially (most of it water) Within the week your body kicks into survival mode by trying to increase its fat reserves and slowing down its metabolic rate. This is the rate at which you consume calories, the slower the rate the less calories you ‘burn’ hence you will need to take in even less calories if you wish to loose weight, and so the ‘yo yo’ diet begins! You loose weight then you put it back on (plus a few extra pounds) so you diet again etc etc. The major problem with slowing your metabolic rate is that even after your crash diet is over your slow metabolism can remain the same.
Aside from the unsuccessful weight loss it can be extremely dangerous to diet in this way. Crash diets can cause Mental health problems such as those associated with anorexia and bulimia, it can also make you irritable and depressed. It is likely that you will suffer from nutritional deficiency especially iron deficiency causing anemia, vitamin B12 deficiency and potassium and sodium deficiency which is particularly dangerous as these electrolytes are used by the body to ensure proper nerve and muscle function including the regulation of your heart beat.
